In 1937 steel boxcars were the first all steel boxcars built by Canadian National Railway. 3000 of them
were built in that first order. 1000 in Montreal, 1000 in Hamilton and 1000 in Trenton N.S. After serving
there time as boxcars, hundreds of them were rebuilt into Point St. Charles cabooses same as the
caboose here on the property. Only 1 of those first steel boxcars remains in tack. This is that boxcar
located here beside the station and is #71662 ex 437100 and it was built in Montreal. It was purchased
in 1998 without its wheel assembly from the Canadian National Railway yard in Truro. The wheel
assembly arrived later on and came from the Trenton Car works in Trenton N.S. It was reassembled in
1999 and opened for accommodations in 2001.
